| The Rostraver Township Fire Department recently welcomed local Girl Scout Troop 60052, who visited the station to donate specialized sensory bags. These resource kits will be distributed to emergency service agencies operating throughout the Belle Vernon Area School District.
Designed to assist first responders, the sensory bags provide essential tools for comforting children and individuals with sensory processing needs during crisis situations. During their visit, the troop received an educational overview of sensory disorders and the specific calming purpose of each item included in the kits. The scouts also toured the department’s fire apparatus, observing the emergency lights up close. This practical demonstration highlighted how the intense sights, loud sounds, and stressful environments of an active emergency scene can trigger sensory overload, reinforcing the importance of their donation. Alongside the sensory awareness discussion, department personnel provided the scouts with instruction on fundamental fire prevention and life safety practices.
The RTFD extends its sincere gratitude to Girl Scout Troop 60052 for their generous contribution and civic engagement. Their thoughtful initiative equips our first responders with valuable resources, ensuring a more compassionate and accommodating emergency response for families and individuals with sensory needs across the community. |
